Quakers Defeat Seton Hall 5-1, Improve to 5-2 on the Season

As they say in that famous quote from The Wizard of Oz: “There is no place like home”, and Quakers were certainly happy to be playing a game back at home after a three-week hiatus defeating the Seton Hall Pirates 5-1 in a dominate performance to improve to 5-2 on the year.

The Quakers wasted no time and came out of the gate swinging in this important league game. The team managed to score four goals in the first ten minutes of game effectively sucking the wind out of the sails for the Pirates. Freshman Chris Bugliosi started off the festivities six minutes into the period with help from Senior Ethan Abraham and Freshman Kevin Shen. Thirty seconds later Freshman Christian Ford found the back of the net with a beautiful goal to notch his first goal of his college career with an assist from Assistant Captain Calvin Alifervo. Not to be out done by his teammates Senior Spencer Touhy put one away sixty-one second later immediately followed by a goal from Abraham less than thirty second after that. Needless to say, after all that excitement the Quakers we’re chugging right along. For good measure Alifervo added a fifth goal late in the period with assists from Bugliosi and Assistant Captain Armaly to bring the score to 5-0 to finish the first period. What can only be described as a dominate performance from the team in that period had the Quakers in complete control of this game moving into the second period.

The Quakers managed to force out Pirates starting goaltender Joe Yutsus and were now facing a new netminder in John Fox. After the outburst of offense in the first period it was enviable that things were going to have to slow down and return to more of a normal pace. It wasn’t until eighteen minutes into the second period that either team was able to find the back of net with Pirates scoring their first goal of the game to end the second period with a score of 5-1. The Pirates really showed heart in the second period giving Penn all they had to try and pull this game back into reach managing to get one goal back.

After taking the full court press from the Pirates in the second the Quakers once again found their grove in the third and controlled the puck in the Seton Hall end for most of the period. The team managed to put thirty-one shots on goal in the third period but were unable to get one past an impressive performance from Fox as the backup goalie resulting in final score of 5-1. Quakers managed to put 63 shots on goal in that game showing how dangerous their offense can be.

Newly elected Captain Dhruv Raman was named the star of the game after playing an excellent game on the blueline and leading his team to victory in an always important league game.
