Quakers Bounce Back, Defeat Rowan on the Road

Well rested off their fall break the Quakers bounce back to defeat Rowan on the road 3-2 improving to 4-2 on the season. After losing two games in a difficult weekend two weeks ago the team was able to regroup and put together a full 60 minutes of hockey against a good Rowan team in what can only be descripted as rough and physical game.

The Quakers got on the board first with a power play goal at the 10-minute mark in the first period thanks to a snipe from freshman Chris Bugliosi assisted by a great pass from senior Ethan Abraham. Sophomore goalie Jack Averill and the Penn defense managed to keep Rowan out of the back of the net in the in the first ending the period 1-0.

In the second period Rowan was able to score a goal six minutes into the period tying the game at one a pi but the Quakers quickly responded with a goal from junior Axel D’Amelo three minutes later to put the Quakers ahead again. Once again, some fantastic goaltending from Averill kept Penn ahead moving into the 3rd, 2-1.

The third period turned into a defensive clinic by both teams as it wasn’t until fourteen minutes into the period Rowan managed to tie the game at 2-2. Good teams find a way win and that’s what the Quakers did. Senior Spencer Touhy muscled his way into the offensive zone with one minute left to play in the third to score the third goal of the game for Penn securing their fourth victory of the season.

The Quakers defense was the star of this game, goalie Jack Averill easily played his best game of the year between the pipes. The defensive core lead by Senior Dhruv Raman and Sophomore Aidan Amaly kept the kitchen clean helping to push the Quakers over the edge.

Quakers are back at it next week for a league game against league opponent Seton Hall at the Class of 1923 Arena for Parents Weekend. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
