Penn Hockey 2023-24 Pre-Season Preview

It’s that time of year again to trade in the swim trunks and beach chairs for skates and gloves as we get ready for another season of Quakers hockey. With the first game less than a month away Penn Men’s Hockey is ready to begin its quest for their third consecutive CSCHC title!

The team is expected to return all three of its top goal scorers from a season ago led by senior Captain Calvin Aliferov who finished the season with 24 goals in 19 games and a total of 40 points on the season.

On the back end, fellow senior captain Dhruv Raman and sophomore Aiden Armaly will look to continue to lock down opposing defenses. Armaly, in addition to his impressive defensive performances last season, led all defenseman in points with 21 which was good for sixth on the team overall.

In between the pipes sophomore Jack Averill has looked solid all preseason as he looks to step into the role of recently graduated Xander Kostelnik who, last season was named the top goalie in the CSCHC and second team all-region.

The coaching staff continues to be led by reigning Southeast Region Coach of the Year Alec Artosky and Assistant Coach Justin Canney. New to the bench this season for the Quakers is Trinity College alumni Anthony Sabitsky adding additional experience and insight to an already stout coaching staff.

The Quakers have beefed up their schedule this season to include non-conference opponents Rowan, Delaware, Georgetown, and St. Joes as well as the members of the CSCHC which now includes crosstown rivals Drexel. The Quakers will begin their season at home against Saint Joseph’s University on September 22nd at 9 PM. Their first CSCHC game will also be at home against Stockton on the 29th of September.
