Quakers Defeat Dragons 4-2, Sweeping Series

The University of Pennsylvania Quakers were able to earn a win this weekend against their known rival, the Drexel Dragons. The Quakers came out on top 4-2 and advanced to 4-0-0 in the Colonial State College Hockey Conference.

Earlier in the season, the Quakers were able to defeat the Dragons 3-2 and they were looking for a season sweep against their neighbors.

Drexel’s Jack Lenire broke the ice, scoring quickly to give his team the lead.

But the Quakers responded with a power play goal scored by senior Axel D’Amelio. The goal came from a hooking call against the Dragons, allowing Penn the opportunity to send one to the back of the net.

Drexel was able to score once more, but once again the Quakers responded! Captain AJ Moshyedi scored the equalizer for Penn with just seven seconds on the clock sending the teams into their locker rooms tied at 2-2.

The Dragons and Quakers share the Class of 1923 Arena. When they met earlier in October, Drexel was given home-ice advantage, however this time it was the Quakers turn and they donned their home white jerseys.

The Quakers kept the momentum rolling in the second frame and killed off a 5-minute-penalty served by Jacob Qian. Sophomore goaltender Reagan O’Neil was phenomenal in-between the pipes.

Penn’s Chris Buglisosi was able to score a shorthanded goal during a late 2nd period penalty kill, giving his team a well-earned lead in the game!

Early into the final period, Ryan Wempen notched his 2nd point of the game on an insurance goal for the Quakers sealing the game at 4-2.

O’Neil made an impressive 45 saves over 60 minutes.

The Quakers will now look ahead to their back-to-back weekend and look to keep this win streak alive!

They face West Chester at home on Friday night and will head to Scranton for a Saturday night match up.  Go Quakers!
